The MACKINAC ISLAND LILAC FESTIVAL continues to be one of the top events in the country. Our tour includes two nights in the Mackinaw area and one night in Charlevoix, Michigan, know for the Earl Young “Mushroom or Fairy Houses”. Before arriving into Mackinaw we will stop at The Cross in the Woods, one of Michigan’s most visited shrines. After crossing the 5 mile long Mackinaw Bridge, we arrive in St. Ignace for our two night beach front stay. They have a bon fire nightly to enjoy the Lake. Dinner is included. Our second day includes a ferry ride to Mackinac Island where we will be greeted by horse drawn carriages for a tour of the Island and hundreds of fragrant lilacs. A highlight will be a Luncheon Buffet at the World-Famous Grand Hotel followed by time to explore the unique gift and fudge shops. Upon returning to the mainland we will offer a shuttle to Mackinaw City. Day three we continue on to Charlevoix, Michigan along Lake Michigan for an overnight stay. The Castle Farms is a French Chateaux style castle that will delight us once again with lunch and a magnificent tour of soaring towers, stone archways, English gardens and cobblestone courtyards. This time we are spending the night in Weathervane Lodge Motel, designed by Earl Young, an architecture who left his mark on this town. These charming houses have a story book look and often called “ mushroom houses” They are built with stones in odd shapes and resemble a mushroom look and have a history of their own. The charming downtown inn that has a fabulous view of the boats and lake area. You are within walking distance of several restaurants and shops. A sunset cruise of the coastal area will highlight our evening. Before departing the area for home our guided tour will include the history of the area and Earl Young Homes.
